FinCEN has released the latest issue of its SAR Activity Review - By the Numbers. As a geek who has to make a bunch of Powerpoint presentations, I love this document. It gives you a ton of nationwide trends, and trends by state. For example, you may be SHOCKED to learn that the Federated States of Micronesia have seen their SAR filings go up more than 300% in 2007. Granted, they only filed 2 in 2006. In this document, you can find statistics for your state, a graphical representation of where SARs are being filed, and a breakdown to see why SARs are being filed. Good, good stuff.
It may not surprise you to hear that credit union SAR filings went up 21 percent in 2007.
